Games for 4 players online

Games for a table of four. Card games and mahjong were built around four seats, and the shape of that table is still here.

Players
There are 7 games that seat four.
Time
about 10–25 min. If you want several rounds in an evening, line up the ten-minute games first.
Sign-up
None. The host sends a link and the other three open it.
CPU
7 of them have a CPU, so three of you can fill the fourth chair.
On a call
Four people on a call works fine. The talking keeps going between turns.

Seats and timing at a table of four

Seats are laid out around the table. Whoever is to act has their frame lit and their name at the top, so nobody has to ask whose turn it is over the call. The order follows the order people sat down, and it holds even if someone is swapped out for a CPU partway through.

Four-player games run longer. Riichi Mahjong is about twenty-five minutes, Hearts about twenty, President about fifteen, and Sevens and Crazy Eights about ten. If your evening has a hard finish, two short rounds beat one long one that gets cut off.

Carrying on with three

When one of four drops out, a CPU picks up that seat. If they reopen the link on the same device they land back in their own chair, so a short break does not mean folding the table.

If you already know only three people are coming, you will get started faster by picking from the three-player shelf instead of leaving a chair empty all evening. Several games sit on both shelves, so you give nothing up by choosing on the basis of who has actually replied rather than who said they might come.

How to choose

FAQ

How many four-player games are there?

There are 7 right now — card games, mahjong and board games.

What if only three of us can make it?

Make the fourth seat a CPU. When someone arrives, they take over from the next round.

How long does a round take?

About about 10–25 min. Sorting by length makes it easier to fit the games into the time you have.

What happens if someone leaves halfway?

A CPU takes their seat. Reopening the link on the same device puts them back where they were.
