Games for a crowd (5+ players)

Games for when five or more of you get together. Each game has its own seat limit, and the highest is six.

Players
There are 4 games that seat five or more. The highest limit is six.
Time
about 10–20 min. More players means a slower lap, so the short games hold up best.
Sign-up
None. Whether there are five or six of you, people sit down as they open the link.
CPU
4 of them have a CPU, so you can start before everyone arrives.
On a call
The more people, the more a call helps. The screen says whose turn it is, so voices stay free for talking.

What holds up past five players

With a big group, everyone waits on one person's turn. The way to keep that short is to pick a game where each turn is close to obvious. Sevens and Crazy Eights mostly play themselves once the cards are out, so a lap stays quick even at six.

President seats six and ranks every player from top to bottom, which is why it keeps a crowd talking. Hearts tops out at five and runs longer, because passing points around takes a full hand to resolve. If your evening has an end time, two rounds of President divide up more neatly.

Starting before everyone arrives

Five now and one more later is a perfectly good way to do this. Leave the spare seat as a CPU, start, and let the latecomer take it from the next round.

The same applies going the other way: when somebody has to leave, a CPU picks up their seat and the rest of you carry on. If the host leaves, the next host is chosen automatically from the people still there.

How to choose

FAQ

How many people can sit down?

Six at most. The limit differs by game and is listed under "Players" on the game page.

How many games work for five or more?

There are 4 right now. They are all card games, and they all run in a browser.

Can we start before everyone is here?

Yes. Leave the spare seats as CPUs, and people take them over from the next round as they arrive.

Can we pass one device around?

The games assume one device each. Anything with a hand of cards gives itself away if you share a screen.
