Terms of Service

The rules for using BoardGameJoin (the "Service"), set by Qdan, Inc. ("we"). Effective 18 September 2026. The Japanese version prevails.

Article 1 (Application)

These Terms apply to the relationship between us and you regarding use of the Service. Where a specific page states otherwise, that page takes priority.

Article 2 (Definitions)

A "guest" is someone who joins without registering. A "registered member" is someone who has registered with an email address or similar. A "premium member" is someone paying the membership fee. A "rights holder" is the company or individual holding the rights to a game.

Article 3 (Registration)

You must register under your own identity. Registration is limited to people aged 13 or over (age is self-declared). Please keep your registered details up to date.

Article 4 (Premium membership and payment)

The membership fee is billed monthly or yearly. Payment is processed through Stripe. You may cancel at any time, and premium remains active until the end of the current period. We do not offer partial refunds mid-period.

Article 5 (Prohibited conduct)

You may not violate the law, cause a nuisance to other users, impersonate someone else, join the same match from multiple devices, cheat using external tools, copy a game without authorization, or interfere with the Service. In Party chat, you may not post abuse or discriminatory remarks, or personal information about yourself or anyone else.

Article 6 (Reports and actions)

We review reports within 24 hours and decide within 72 hours, as a rule. Actions increase in severity in this order: lowering karma, resetting a nickname, suspending find-an-opponent matches, and suspending use of the Service.

Article 7 (Rights to games)

Rights to each game belong to its rights holder. We provide the online version within the scope of that rights holder’s approval.

Article 8 (Disclaimer)

We are not liable for damage caused by connection issues or device problems, except where caused by our own intent or gross negligence. Our own records of a match are treated as authoritative.

Article 9 (Changes)

When we change these Terms, we will give notice at least 7 days before they take effect.

Article 10 (Governing law and jurisdiction)

These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. The Tokyo District Court has exclusive jurisdiction in the first instance over any dispute relating to the Service.

Article 11 (Required technical diagnostics)

To maintain reliable operation and detect, reproduce and fix problems, the Service automatically records and uses game actions, game state (including non-public information such as hands, the deck and random seeds), release versions, device and browser types, viewport size, connection status and technical errors. Diagnostics are part of the Service and cannot be disabled in user settings. Written bug reports and contact details are optional. The Privacy Policy explains purposes, retention and the use of external services.

Article 12 (Turn-based matches)

Gomoku, Reversi, Shogi and Chess offer turn-based play. A Party automatically ends with no winner or loser after 45 days without a game action. Before play starts, this period runs from creation or a mode change. Connections and chat do not extend the deadline. Resume using the seat information saved in the browser you joined with; clearing browser data removes access to your seat.

Article 13 (Invitation events and tournaments)

People with an invitation link can join a scheduled event. The organizer is also a participant. Tournament rules and times are fixed on creation; there are no replacements or CPU substitutes during play. Mahjong tournament standings sum the ranking points confirmed by the server; equal totals share a rank. Events that have not started within 24 hours of the scheduled start expire. Alerts for imported calendar entries depend on your calendar settings. Cancellations do not sync automatically; check the event page. Events and tournaments have no prizes or cash awards.

Article 14 (Language)

The Japanese text of these Terms and the Privacy Policy is authoritative; the English text is a reference translation. Where they differ, the Japanese text prevails.

Article 15 (Recommendations)

A registered member who has played a title may post a recommendation on that title’s page. One post per title, which you may rewrite or delete at any time. The prohibitions in Article 5 apply to posts, and in addition you may not include links, personal information about yourself or others, or promotional material. You keep the copyright in what you write. You grant us permission to publish, reproduce and translate your post for the service and for introducing it. We may hide a post when it is reported or when we judge it to be against these Terms. If you close your account, your posts, votes and reports are deleted. Recommendations have no replies and no direct messages.
