Straight
Five cards in numerical sequence, regardless of suit.
Rank 6 of 10 poker hands.
How it’s made
- Five ranks in a row with no gaps (e.g. 5-6-7-8-9); all one suit upgrades it to a straight flush.
- Both A-2-3-4-5 (the wheel) and A-K-Q-J-10 (Broadway) count as straights.
Example hand
5♠ 6♥ 7♦ 8♣ 9♠
Odds
- 0.3925%(1 in 255)
- 10,200 out of 2,598,960 possible 5-card hands
Breaking ties between the same hand
- Compare the highest card in each straight; 10-9-8-7-6 beats 9-8-7-6-5.
Common mistakes
- Ranks don't wrap around: K-A-2-3-4 is not a straight — the ace can only be high (…-K-A) or low (A-2-3-4-5).
