Ranked play, rating, and rank (dan)
How your rating moves and how rank (dan) is decided.
Do I need to register for ranked play?
Yes. Registration is free, and playing is free.
How does my rating change?
It moves when you play someone with a close rating. Beating a stronger opponent gains you more; losing to a weaker opponent costs you more.
How is rank (dan) decided?
It follows the band your current rating is in. Once you cross into the next band, you have the next rank from that match on. These numbers may be adjusted as we go.
How long is a season?
3 months. Rankings and season points are per season; your rating and rank carry over unchanged.
What happens on a draw?
A draw counts as halfway between a win and a loss. Against a stronger opponent your rating goes up a little; against a weaker one it goes down a little.
Does beating the CPU raise my rating?
A little, up to 5 wins per game and CPU level. Losing does not lower it. CPU games do not count toward rankings or season points.
