Reversi in 30 seconds

Rule highlights
Setup
- Two players. You need an 8×8 board and discs that are black on one side and white on the other.
- Start with four discs in the middle four squares — two black and two white, set crosswise.
- Black plays first, white second.
How to play
- Black and white take turns placing one disc each.
- You may only play on a square that sandwiches at least one of your opponent's discs between the disc you place and another of your own — up, across or diagonal.
- Every disc you sandwich flips to your colour on that move. Discs that are not sandwiched do not flip.
- If you have no legal square, your turn passes automatically and your opponent plays again.
- A disc never moves once placed; it only ever flips.
Winning
- The game ends when the board is full, or when neither player has a legal move.
- Whoever has more discs on the board at that point wins.
- An equal number of discs is a draw.

How many players?
Two. One plays black, the other white.
How long is a game?
About 10 minutes — 60 moves at most, until the board fills up.
What happens when I have no legal square?
Your turn passes automatically. You can never choose to pass.
Can a game be drawn?
Yes. If both players end with the same number of discs, it is a draw.
Can I practise alone?
Yes. Press Play vs CPU to play against the computer.
Is this the same as Othello?
Othello is a registered trademark (Megahouse) for a commercial edition of the same game. The rules are essentially the same; this site follows the standard starting position (four discs crosswise in the centre) and the usual default of passing automatically when you have no legal move.
Can I play at school or work (unblocked)?
Yes. Reversi runs entirely in your browser, with nothing to download or install, so it works on most school and work networks that block app stores or game downloads. If your network blocks the whole site, ask an administrator to allow boardgamejoin.com.
Is there a 2 player mode?
